Tuesday, January 12, 2010 - On 1/12/10 at approximately 1600 hrs, Rescues 83, 82, 84, along with BLS 806 and Medic 46, were dispatched to 701 Little Gloucester Road for a MVA with entrapment. While units were responding, GTPD updated the location to Coles Road and Fairway Drive. Quint 83 arrived and reported a two car MVA with two occupants trapped in one of the vehicles. 8301 assumed command and Rescue 82 was assigned extrication. Quint 83 handled the engine company responsibilities while Rescue 82 stabilized and neutralized the vehicle, then removed both passenger side doors and B post. Medics on scene requested a helicopter for one of the occupants, and 2 additional BLS units. 8202 and Engine 821 handled the LZ, while Engine 842 de-energized the other vehicle involved and Rescue 84 mitigated a fluid spill. Access was quickly made to both occupants and after packaging, they were transported to Cooper Trauma, one by ground and the other by Medivac 5. Despite the efforts of all companies involved, the occupant that was flown did not survive the crash and was pronounced at the hospital later in the evening. The crash is being investigated by GTPD.
